Fit Review | Denim & Leather Jacket + Tees + Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale
With so many great sales recently, I picked up a few items on my wishlist to try out. Since I do a lot of online shopping (fits my busy schedule), fit reviews are crucial. Unfortunately, many reviews I read are not very detailed or don’t give me the best picture – which results in purchases that are the wrong size or over-purchasing to receive multiple sizes.
Being petite, this is can be especially frustrating – who knows if a regular XS will fit? So, I’m going to try to post some quick fit reviews here and there & on my YouTube Channel / Instagram Stories to show you how items really fit me. I hope this helps – let me know if you want to see anything in particular on my blog or prefer a certain format for this! And sorry for the poor quality images.
Remember, my size is on my About page here. Plus my previous Memorial Day Sale Post still has some great products included in seasonal sales – read more here. This post may contain affiliate links; full disclosures HERE.
Denim Jacket
A classic denim jacket is a wardrobe essential. I’ve been looking for the perfect one for awhile now. I finally ended up trying out 3 sizes of this J. Crew denim jacket and here is a comparison. With J. Crew’s new sizing with triple extra small (XXXS), I find it confusing to know what size to purchase at times. So I ended up ordering: Petite XX-Small, Regular XXX-Small and Regular XX-Small. I reviewed them in this order on my video here.
Photos of fit here:
Petite XX-Small: too short in arm length, too narrow in shoulder width
Regular XXX-Small: arm length ok, still slightly narrow in shoulder width
Regular XX-Small: arm length perfect, shoulder width perfect
Verdict: I kept the Regular XXS Denim Jacket
Leather Jacket
I detailed a few leather jackets during the Memorial Day Sales and I received 2 of them this week – one from Nordstrom and one from Bloomingdale’s (both still on sale). I absolutely LOVED the online photos of these and could not wait for them to arrive…unfortunately I felt that the Mackage Hania Moto Leather Jacket was overwhelming on my petite frame. Zipped up it was a little better but still lacked a wow factor for me.
Note, this jacket is high-quality and when I opened the shipping box it had a very strong leather smell to it (overwhelming my guest room with its smell). The jacket is very well made – it has a removable belt at the bottom that snaps in and out, zippers on the arms and pockets. The arms were too long – which is very concerning when the sleeves have zippers (alterations could be a nightmare)

Verdict: Both returned
Casual Tees/Tops
I’ve seen many photos on Instagram with these 2 tees in them so I decided to give them a try at Nordstrom. The Gibson Twist Front Cozy Fleece Pullover was very soft – I tried on a Petite XS since my local store didn’t have the smaller size in Petite XX-Small. I would say the fit is just ok, nothing wow and the back is little loose. It definitely would be better styled with a statement necklace. If you are looking for a casual cozy 3/4 length top for lounging around or athleisure wear, then I would say yes this is a great option. I’m not in the market for one of these right now.
The Caslon Fringed Tee was so pretty in photos. I love the coral tide (a peachy orange) color and wanted to give it a try. My store had a Petite X-Small in stock in navy – I like the lace detailing a lot on the top of it but the front is very loose on me. I could wear it tucked in but even then, I was not in love. I would also echo reviewers that the head opening is quite tight – be careful not to rub makeup off onto the tee if you try it on! If you are in the market for a loose fitting tee, then I would give this a try.
Verdict: No to the Gibson Twist Front
Verdict: No to the Caslon Fringed Tee
Work Blazer
I was looking for another work blazer that was something different than the usual styles. I came across a couple to try out. This one at Nordstrom – Trouve Pleated Back – was intriguing with the detailing on the back. My store only had size X-Small (previously sold in XX-Small but out of stock now) and it was huge! I can see why some reviews say it feels like a curtain.
The other blazer I saw was the Banana Republic Scallop Blazer in black – I had seen it weeks ago but never bothered to try it on since there was NO petite sizing and the smallest size in regular was a 0 – which never fits me! I saw a review that the regular may fit petite-frames well so I tried it on quickly in store and it looked great! The scallop detailing is AMAZING! The thickness of the jacket is good and I would agree with other reviewers that it would hold up against wrinkles all day long. I didn’t have time to style it with work pants to really see the full look but it is definitely on my maybe list. I’m unsure of the arm length for me – it’s not 3/4 length and its not full length so I’m not sure if it looks odd.
Verdict: No to Trouve Pleated Blazer
Verdict: Maybe to Banana Republic Scallop Blazer – thoughts on arm length?!
Lastly, I picked up this Theory skirt at a crazy deal (<$100) at Bloomingdale’s and want to show you how it fits since it’s still on sale! I already own a classic Theory black suit (my review here) and haven’t invested in another Theory product for work in quite awhile. The Petite P fits well and is definitely not a “mini skirt” on someone my height! Yay for petite-frames! It is a stretch fit waist with no zippers or buttons on it. It fits just above my hips and hits right above my knees. It will pair well with a black blazer and colorful sweaters. I love that it is not a traditional pencil skirt since I’ve talked about how fluctuating weight (I lost weight in my waist) hasn’t allowed me to actually wear many of my skirts the last several months! This skirt will accommodate weight changes with it’s stretch fabric and design!
Verdict: Bought and in LOVE with! My mom was definitely the happiest with this purchase!
