J. Crew Work Outfits & Casual Outfits
I’m continuing my popular Fit Reviews today with work outfit and casual outfit inspiration from the new lines at J. Crew. J. Crew has come back on my radar the past couple of years because of the addition of their Petite-Line and addition of Regular 000 sizing. I am now able to more easily purchase items and wear right off the rack instead of tailoring. You’ve seen my previous posts with J. Outfit: Daisylace Top, Regular 000
Thoughts: I love this top! It’s so pretty on. I will say it is cropped in length though and in-store I tried on a regular size that was longer while the petite size is about 0.75 inches shorter than the regular size. In addition, as other reviewers have commented, the camisole is ultra-cropped and difficult to put on. Problem solved: remove the camisole – yes, those silver circles open up – and replace with one of your own! I decided on a longer white camisole from LOFT that I tucked into my pants and then put on the top. I will say, I up-zip the top all the way and walk into it to put on. Putting this daisylace top on over my head seems more cumbersome. I cannot wait to pair this lace top with the matching pants and see more options to wear it from day to night!
Outfit: Bell-Sleeve Daisylace Dress, Regular 00 in photos (also tried on Petite 00 from online order)
Thoughts: I loved the daisylace top and thought the dress would be a classic addition to my wardrobe. Unfortunately, even the Petite 00 is too big on and would require significant alterations in the waist area. It went back to the store for me but for those who can wear regular sizes, I recommend sizing down in this dress.
Outfit: Tie-neck dress in Italian Wool-Crepe (aka bow dress), Regular 000
Thoughts: I immediately fell in LOVE with this bow dress! I’m wearing a regular size here and the petite size is about 2-2.5 inches shorter in length so it hits perfectly above my knee. I ordered the deep garnet (burgundy color) in Petite 00 and it fits without alterations. Look out for more photos and a dedicated blog post on this dress soon! It will easily transition from work to date night.
Outfit: Cropped Sweater Blazer, Size XXX-Small
Thoughts: On the rack I really liked the style of this blazer. Unfortunately when I tried it on, I didn’t love it. The material is very soft and comfortable so if you are in the market for a sweater blazer this is an option. I would try on a petite size if available.
Outfit: Cardigan Sweater with Ruffly Underlay, XXX-Small
Thoughts: I fell in love with this sweater when I saw it. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to wear. First I struggled to put it on and then it ran very small and looked ridiculous on. The color and style is gorgeous but the sweater is very very short on. I would need to size up significantly and didn’t try on another size.
Outfit: Gingham One-shoulder Ruffle Top, Size 00
Thoughts: I love gingham and I had to give this top a try. I’m wearing size 00 and definitely could use the triple zero (000) or petite 00 instead. I like the style but it is a little big on me here. I would tuck it into a high-waist skirt or denim jeans.
Outfit: Merino Wool V-neck sweater with Drawstring Sleeves, Size XXX-Small or XXS
Thoughts: I like this pretty heather violet color and the detailing on the sleeves. The v-neck does run lower than I expected but I think this sweater would work well for casual work wear to weekend wear. It comes in ivory, burgundy or navy colors as well.
Outfit: Ruffle-Front Chambray Top, Size 000
Thoughts: Chambray is a classic and it was refreshing to see a new take on it. This ruffle-front top is very pretty and fits true-to-size. I’m wearing size 000 in these photos. It may be a little boxy on me but can be overcome by tucking it into a great pair of pants or skirt. If able to, I would size down to a petite size.
Outfit: Merino Wool Sweater Blazer, Size XXX-Small
Thoughts: The soft fabric on this sweater blazer caught my eye in the store. For fit, it does run a little larger for a looser fit and longer length. I would recommend it if this is your style. I personally prefer a more polished blazer for my work life. It also comes in heather gray or black.
Outfit: Academy Loafers in Flannel
Thoughts: I thought these flats were unique and perfect for fall or winter. The flannel design with little bow details is classic yet updated. These are a size 6 but I definitely would need a 5 or 5.5.
Outfit: Downtown Field Jacket, Size XXX-Small
Thoughts: I love this field jacket! It is the perfect weight for the fall season. I’m trying on a regular size in stores and it fits very well. I would consider a petite-size for the arm length. The color does look better in person than online.
Outfit: Quilted Downtown Field Jacket, Size XXX-Small
Thoughts: I love this thicker version of the downtown field jacket. The quilting adds some warmth and it would be excellent down to 30-40 degrees I believe (I haven’t tried it out). The moss green color is great for fall and now it also comes in a black color – classic! I’m wearing a regular size here in stores but it fits surprisingly well. I can cuff the sleeves over once to fit better if needed. I already own an olive green jacket from Burberry so this won’t join my wardrobe, but if it did, I would get the petite xx-small size.
Outfit: Italian Stadium Cloth Wool Cocoon Coat, Size 000
Thoughts: I was immediately drawn to this gorgeous vibrant color! Unfortunately stores don’t carry petite sizing so this nice wool coat looks like a bag on me. I recommend sizing down and considering the bright plum color or ocean moss green color!
