Get Ready for Fall Travel with this Easy Outfit
How to Outfit Plan for Fall Travel
I know fall travel is just around the corner and readers have requested travel outfit ideas to bring with them or wear on the plane. For 3 outfits I travel in, please see this previous blog post.
First off, for those looking for packing advice before outfit ideas, here is my full blog post & video on packing.
- Carry-on suitcase + Backpack: I rarely check my suitcase anymore. I’ve gone on trips up to 7-10 days with a carry-on suitcase only and backpack. The carry-on suitcase I love is the Samsonite spinner. Yes, it looks large but I’ve never had a problem fitting it into the overhead compartment and the 4-spinner wheels are a must!
- Clothing is folded using the KonMari Method – usually take up one side of my suitcase
- My toiletries all go in this eBag one. The small liquid goes in a TSA-approved Ziploc bag (or reusable plastic bag)
- The other side is used for my makeup case, flat iron and miscellaneous such as my large camera
- I don’t travel with a hair dryer anymore but my Harry Josh Pro Dryer would fit if I really needed to
- Backpack: I always travel with my laptop (7+ years old & going strong), a book and a notebook for journaling. I usually place my small purse into the backpack as well to keep my carry-ons to 2. Backpack goes underneath the seat and suitcase goes above. I prefer my new Lo & Sons backpack to travel with because it slides into the handle but I used to travel with my trusty North Face backpacks. Blog post on these travel essentials.

Ok, now that you know a little about my travel here is an outfit you can easily use in your capsule wardrobe for a trip! Must-haves in outfit planning for a trip:
- Non-wrinkle or if there is a lot of clothing that can wrinkle, a small steamer is included in my miscellaneous packing items
- Dress up or down by switching out pants, shoes, or completer pieces (i.e. jacket/cardigan)
- Thin enough to use pieces to layer
Easy Outfit Planning
I started this outfit with casual denim jeans. I next added a long sleeve blouse with some color. This blouse could be worn for work or with this casual outfit. Next, I added a jacket. This black faux leather jacket screams fall and fit perfectly over the blouse. For added warmth, I layered a scarf over the outfit in a darker color than the blouse.

- Casual Day / Sightseeing with block heeled booties
For added comfort, here are tips on how I wear booties in comfort while exploring! Plus, heels all-day long.
Style Tip: Consider hunter green for your blouse with a dark hunter green or black scarf.
