How to Wear Navy & Camel Together // Neutral Tones & Layering
My “How-To” blog posts with navy have been so popular that I’m highlighting another color that pairs well with navy…camel! You’ll also find How to Wear Navy & Gray Together in this blog post (with updated shopping links) and How to Wear Navy & Yellow Together in this blog post (with 9 affordable yellow tops).

Navy and camel are go-to neutrals in our wardrobes and they pair well together for different outfit combinations. There are multiple ways to wear these two colors together and for this blog post, I opted to keep my outfits entirely in the neutral tones!
Because temperatures are fluctuating throughout the country right now, I also opted to showcase a layering option for this navy & camel outfit. For those who are in warmer temperatures, simply remove a layer (sweater or chambray button-up) or switch them out for short-sleeve options and lighter fabrics.
When staying neutral with navy and camel, here are a few tips:
- Pick out another color in the navy color wheel and another color in the camel color wheel. I chose a lighter blue color (chambray button-up) and a lighter tan color (handbag) for this purpose.
- Use accessories to accent navy and camel while staying neutral. I chose navy high heels and a brown belt that were similar neutrals but did break up the outfit so it was not monotone.
- Keep jewelry classic with gold options and pearls instead of bold colors. I chose a classic gold pearl necklace in a medium-size for this outfit.
Navy & Camel Together: Outfit #1
I know many of you will have questions about this camel skirt and I would like to address them here. This is the classic sidewalk skirt style from J. Crew Factory. I’m wearing size 00. There are no petite sizes in this skirt style and I will say that is does run a little big on me. BUT, it is available year-round with seasonal additions in new colors, details such as scallop hemline (see scallop details in my blog post or sale blog post here) and fabric choices (such as linen vs. wool).
I also am not a big fan of the large elastic waistband so I do plan to wear a belt with it when styling this skirt. I recommend a 1-2 inch belt for this particular skirt because anything skinnier will be overpowered by the large elastic waist. For styling the belt, I opted to use a regular belt and take the extra belt length to loop under, up and around. Looking at these photos, ideally the belt would be just slightly longer to more easily loop around and not come undone throughout the day.
Style Trick: use an old belt that is too big for you or your boyfriend/husband’s belt to try out this technique of looping the extra fabric around!

Navy & Camel Together: Outfit #2
For this work outfit, I layered with a chambray button-up, navy v-neck sweater, classic camel blazer and my go-to work pants from Banana Republic. I kept the medium-size pearl statement necklace with this outfit and my bow heels.
Style Tip: Experiment with rolling the sleeves of this blazer and exposing the button-up sleeves underneath. I rolled the chambray sleeves over the blazer sleeve for more contrast.
