Bridging the Gap Style Edition: How to Style Sweater Dresses
Our Bridging the Gap Campaign launched on October 17, 2017 and I’m excited to share monthly blog posts highlighting different styles for both generations. I’ll style these items with my mom most of the time and with fellow bloggers! More information about Bridging the Gap on this page.
Let’s start our first Bridging the Gap Style Edition post with talking about How to Style Sweater Dresses.

Why do I love Sweater Dresses?
I love sweater dress styles. Why? They are SO comfortable! And easy to throw on in the morning before heading out to work or brunch with girlfriends. Plus, they are classic in design so they last for many years in your Capsule Wardrobe. Finally, they are flattering on many different body types.
Outfits: Ann Taylor Sweater Dresses on both of us (old); Pieces of Me bracelet cuffs c/o (10% off with code ‘JESSICA’); Daniel Wellington Watch c/o or Burberry Watch; Tory Burch Wallet Clutches (my blog post); KJP Bracelet c/o (my blog post); Tieks ballet flats (our blog post together); Sheec Socks (20% off with code ‘PSSVIP20’); Aveda Hair Care
How to Style Sweater Dresses
- Pick your favorite color to add a sweater dress to your wardrobe. I chose a Little Black Dress (LBD) for my own dress and my mom is wearing a Fall-inspired hue with burgundy and navy.
- Add in your favorite shoes. For comfort, we both chose our Tieks ballet flats. I’ll swap out these flats for heels – favorite ones here – bow heels or patent leather heels.
- Add in accessories. With classic dress styles, it’s easy to add in simple or statement jewelry and accessories. My mom and I chose simple accessories. I added in gold and pearl accents with a KJP necklace, Daniel Wellington watch, Pieces of Me bracelet cuff and KJP bracelet. My mom added in silver accents with a Burberry watch (similar here) and Pieces of Me bracelet cuff (more information + discount code for these bracelet cuffs on this blog post)
- Add in layers. Because of the heat wave in Los Angeles, we didn’t add in layers for these photos. But it’s easy to style sweater dresses with cardigans and blazers. These are my favorites – cardigan, wrap sweater, blazer.
Both of our sweater dresses are old from Ann Taylor. We both picked out in stock dresses that we liked.
