Get Ready for Winter with Sorel Tofino Waterproof Boots

With winter travel approaching, I am excited to share winter boots that are stylish and versatile for cold-weather climates! After living in Wisconsin and a winter-climate for pharmacy residency, it’s time to update my winter boot closet for travel this season. I’m excited to partner with Bloomingdale’s to showcase a couple of their winter boots today…particularly the Sorel Tofino II Boot in womens and kids sizing!
What type of weather am I preparing for?! COLD and snowy temperatures! I’ll be visiting my hometown in Wisconsin along with stopping in Chicago for a medical conference & tourist fun!

What am I looking for in a winter boot?
I’m looking for functional, versatile and stylish winter boots. For travel to snowy and cold temperatures, my winter boots must be:
- Lined and warm to withstand wind and cold temperatures
- Waterproof to withstand snow, rain, and slush while walking around
- Mid-calf height so they are tall enough for deeper snow piles
- Comfortable to walk in for 1+ miles per day
- Neutral color to easily style with many different outfits
Where did I Shop for Winter Boots?
As you know, I love Bloomingdale’s and I’ve talked about it a lot on my blog, especially for their amazing Customer Service and my previous purchases in these posts: Wool Coat; Shoes; Dresses. Recently, I also purchased winter accessories from Bloomingdale’s and decided to search for winter boots that met my criteria listed above (read my blog post).
How I Chose these Sorel Boots:
After searching for winter boots on Bloomingdale’s website, I narrowed down my choices to Sorel brand or Ugg brand. I read about all the waterproof features of boots by different brands and knew that Sorel and Ugg were the leading brands for many reasons including waterproof, warmth, comfort and stylish yet classic designs.
To meet all my criteria above, I narrowed down my list further and chose the Sorel Tofino II Lace Up Boots (shop it here: Sorel Tofino II Boot). This style comes in 2 colors – black or curry tan – and I chose the curry tan color with black accents because it’s a great neutral and gives a little more color than the full black option.

Women’s vs. Girls/Kids Sizing:
I usually wear size 5.5 in shoes and decided to size up to a size 6 in women’s in this boot. I also noticed that Sorel made this boot in a near identical version for Girls or Kids. I decided to order it in size 5 in kids (equivalent to size 6 in women’s – see kids sizing charts to convert properly) and see how it compared in person to the women’s version.
How did they fit? Let’s compare similarities and differences in the Tofino II Lace Up Boot:
- Women’s is slightly taller in height
- Women’s is more narrow in footbed (aka the Girl’s version may fit better for wide feet)
- Women’s has a gray faux fur lining compared to the ivory faux fur lining in the Girl’s boot
- Women’s has different shoe laces than the Girl’s boots (can be easily changed per your preferences)
- Both have the same curry tan color, quilted design, black waterproof sole and slip-resistant sole
Finally, I know you’re wondering – what socks am I wearing with these winter boots?! I tried out a few pairs of socks to compare with these boots. My favorite were these fleece-lined socks for warmth and comfort! I also liked these more affordable ribbed boot socks. I own ski socks that go up to mid-calf and put these on along with a second pair of socks that covered just my feet – both pairs of boots were comfortable and not too snug with this sock combo! The lace-up detailing helps to adjust the calf as you wear different styles of pants, jeans and socks!
What do I recommend keeping? It was a close call but I think I like the Women’s Tofino boots slightly more than the Girl’s version. If you have a wider foot that is still small in sizing (up to size 7 in Women’s – equivalent to size 6 in Kids) then I recommend the Girl’s version.
